EBTKS Challenge: Texture!

Good afternoon! I've just gotten back from my first day of teaching middle school. What a great day! The kids are wonderful, and teaching Science is a BLAST! I love being back at CCS!

Today is another great day; Limelight is sponsoring the Everything But the Kitchen Sink's LAST challenge! It's bittersweet, huh? We hate that it's the last, but we're thrilled to be sponsoring! The challenge this week is to create a card, scrapbook page, or altered item that features LOTS of TEXTURE! Here's a picture to get your creative wheels turning...

I actually created two cards using the same materials, since I had everything out. ;) Both cards use Bashful Blue cardstock from SU. I used the Peace Be Still stamp set from PTI for all of the snowflakes and sentiments, which are all white embossed. The felt snowflakes are from the coordinating PTI die. The felt flakes are edged with SU Silver Glass Glitter. The cards are accented with Silver Rhinestones.

The winner for this challenge will receive this prize pack from Webster's Pages, which includes a vellum & die cut kit along with the Whimsy Heart Perfect Pack.

What will YOU create? Post your creation on your blog or in an online gallery, then link it to the EBTKS challenge blog. You have 10 days to complete your card (December 9 at midnight CST). They'll pick the winner by December 12.

Sketch 61 WINNER!

Congratulations to Lauren B, our winner of the Stickles prize pack! Lauren, send me your address, and I'll send 3 bottles of Stickles your way! Scroll down; Lauren's card was a top pick for me this week!

And a side note... This is NOT our last sketch challenge! We'll continue with the challenges until further notice. Join us on December 9 as we tackle a new sketch and work with SPARKLE, glitter, Shimmerz, Rhinestones, Sparkle Fibers, etc.!

As always, here are a few of the fabulous cards created for this week's challenge!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you're all enjoying a fabulous day of family, rest, gratitude, and good FOOD! :) Thanks for tuning in and joining us for the Limelight Papercrafts Sketch #61. We are pulling out the POLKA DOTS for this challenge!

Before I get too far into the sketch, I'd love to thank you for the kind words since I shared that Limelight Papercrafts will be closing its doors. I was really touched by the comments and e-mails I received expressing your concern and emotion over our decision to close. I would like to share a little more detail over the reason behind the decision...mostly so you don't worry! We are closing under good terms and for wonderful reasons. I have been aware that this was coming for a while, but I expected it for next year maybe. I just happened to get an out-of-the-blue job offer from the wonderful Christian school I used to teach at, and I start teaching 6th grade Science on Tuesday! I am so thrilled! This is especially good news because my son starts kindergarten next year, and we now know where he will go to school!! As far as me personally (if you are wondering!), I will be around blogland and Splitcoast (hopefully much more than I have been!)...
The moral of the story??? Now is a GREAT time to shop some deals (and STEALS!) at Limelight Papercrafts. ;) Shameless plug, I know.

All right! On to the sketch!! I had fun making this card. I started with a kraft card base and tied some SU chocolate striped ribbon on vertically. For my rectangle layer, I used some ornament paper from the Basic Grey Jovial paper pad. This is what I chose for my polka dots! The ornaments are arranged in something of a polka dot pattern, which I loved for this card! :) I used an ornament punch and a white matching rub-on on Riding Hood Red cardstock to make my ornament. I punched the corners with a Corner Rounder and created a partial frame with Silver Rhinestones instead of stamping another sentiment. The ornament and Jovial paper are both mounted on Pop-It Circles.

The Details:

SKETCH 60: Patterned Paper!

It's Limelight Papercrafts Sketch Time!

The focus is on using Fall and/or Halloween colors!

There is a FABULOUS PRIZE...details below...

I tell ya, since our DT Challenge on the 6th, I have REALLY been in a Christmas mood! I have wanted to go Christmas shopping and decorate (although I have not actually done either of those things...yet!), I have made Puppy Chow, and I just want to make Christmas cards! Today's sketch card is no exception. I could not resist a Christmas theme to this card, and I could only envision it in red and green! LOL!

I started with a Fine Linen (PTI) base for my card, and I used this Yuletide paper from the Oh Joy! Crafting Kit from Cosmo Cricket. I just LOVE this pattern! It's so elegant and traditional! I wrapped some Brown Twill around the card and tied a bow (I kept the bow on its side to keep the card less crowded. The main "peace" image is the Peace & Joy Itty Bitty stamp from Unity. I used a Soft Suede (SU) marker to ink only part of the image. The main image and the dove were both die cut using PTI dies. The dove was embellished with a Silver Rhinestone collar, and a sparkly red sprig sits behind him.

The Details:
**Use the sketch provided and the focus is on PATTERNED PAPER! If you are like me, you have your current favorites, so use what you love right now!
**Key word for SCS upload is LLPC060
**Post a comment with a link to your card on right here on this post by Sunday, November 14, at midnight (or before winner is drawn Monday a.m.).
a Sticker Prize Package!! Winner is chosen randomly from all participants.

Gift Card Holder TUTORIAL

There has been some interest in my gift card holder, and I have had a few requests for directions. I have decided to put together a quick tutorial to show you how to make it! I hope this is clear enough, but of course feel free to ask me anything!

1. Cut a 10" x 4.25" piece of cardstock or patterned paper. I used cardstock today, and you can see that I went ahead and stamped my images from Cupcake Numbers in Pacific Point (SU), Terra Cotta Tile (PTI), and Simply Chartreuse (PTI). You'll notice that I forgot to stamp the rust and green colors at this point. Ha.

Go ahead and score on the 10" side at 2 7/8", 5", and 7 1/8". If you are stamping on cardstock, you may want to stamp first so that you aren't stamping over score lines.

2. Take that middle score line (at 5"), and run the cutting blade over it to cut an opening for the gift card to slide into. Leave about 1/4" on both sides, but be sure not to cut all the way to the ends. I like to slide the gift card in for a moment at this point, just to be sure it will fit in my slot.

3. Next you will want to die cut or punch (if you have a punch strong enough to get through the two layers) a circle (or scallop...whatever you like!) in the middle of the gift card slot. I chose to use my Big Shot to die cut a PTI circle die.

And with the circle....Hope you can tell. ;)

4. Fold a valley fold with your printed (or stamped) side out, as shown. The larger rectangle areas on the top and bottom will be the outside (front and back) of your holder. Use a bone folder to crease the folds very well.

5. Glue the folded middle (where the gift card will slide in) together. Be sure to only adhere the VERY edges of the sides and bottom together so that there is ample room for the gift card to slide in. If you don't have time to wait, or just don't WANT to wait (*wink*), use a thin Super Sticky (red) tape to adhere.

Here is what the folded and creased gift card holder should look like:

6. Embellish as desired! For this gift card holder, I simply tied some black twill around the middle and adhered a couple of coordinating buttons to the center of the bow!

If you make one of these, I'd LOVE to see it! Please share! These are really quite simple to make, and I think there are LOTS of options!!

Challenge on the 6th: Card Set

Happy November 6! :) On the sixth of every month, the Limelight Design Team tackles a challenge to present great paper crafting ideas to you. This month, our challenge is to use one piece of 12x12 paper and create a card set with different designs. My piece of 12x12 that I chose is the new Jillibean Soup Christmas Chestnut Soup in Whole Cloves. I just love this line's kraft base. What unique looking projects you can create with this look! I created five Christmas cards and one gift card holder using this one piece of paper, and I'll be using the few leftover scraps to embellish the envelopes. As far as general supplies are concerned, I used Dark Chocolate (PTI) and Riding Hood Red (SU) card stocks along with the patterned paper.

I'll show you the gift card holder first, since I think it's probably my favorite!

Here's an open view of my gift card, including the Starbucks gift card that's already tucked inside and ready to be given as a gift. Additional supplies are burgundy silk ribbon, a circle punch, a snowflake die, buttons, and some Jingle Bells.

The following ornaments card features silver tinsel and Silver Rhinestones. Stamps are PTI, and the ornament punch is from SU.

The Merry Xmas card features a smaller strip of the patterned paper, some Ivory Burlap String, some White Chocolate Chip Letters from Basic Grey, and a red spring and jingle bells.

The stamp on my joy card is from a past Unity store kit, a Cosmo Cricket chip snowflake covered in Chocolate glitter, a red button, and some White Satin Ribbon.

My snowman card features an ADORABLE velvet snowman sticker from Stampendous. The little flakes on the left panel are from the same sticker sheet. The believe stamp is from a past Unity store kit, and the brown "hills" are accented with Snow Glitter.

Thanks so much for joining us for this hop, and please remember to visit each of our DT members to see their wonderful creations!! See my right sidebar for DT links. :)

Sketch 59 WINNER!

Congratulations to the lovely JANICE, who wins the Father Christmas prize pack! Janice, be sure you email me so I can make certain I have your address. :) Here is Janice's gorgeous Fall card:

Lorie made this fabulous pumpkin card that I just fell in love with! How CUTE is this little gobbler?!?

Amy made this beautiful card with the pattern carried all the way through the little squares! What a happy, unique card!

Although Savannah had to make a sympathy card, she created quite a simple stunner with the addition of some inking and those butterflies.
